More than a third of the artists on this 16 track collection -- Toumani Diabate, Mavis Staples, SJD, Cesaria Evora, Beirut, Susana Baca -- have appeared at Elsewhere, and a few of them have been considered among the Best of Elsewhere 2007.
So much of this multi-culti music will be familiar to Elsewhere people -- so let's throw the attention on the great French songwriter/oud player/folkloric stylist Titi Robin from France (an Elsewhere favourite but not posted because his albums have been unavailable), David D'Or, the Terem Quartet from Russia (who have appeared at an earlier Womad), the rollicking Sharon Jones and Dap Kings . . .
In the paltry liner notes Womad director Thomas Brooman notes the musical journey takes you from Brazil to Mali, Israel to France and Russia . . . and many more places besides.
A good audio overview -- but the lack of information seems a marketing opportunity lost, and the credits don't even tell you what albums the tracks come from should you want to explore more.
That's just cheap
So this is where Elsewhere comes in, I guess.
